The short version: you can draw routes and play films without an account, and no profile of you is kept. If you sign in, we store only your Google sign-in details and the film you save. We never sell your data.
Using Wayfilm without an account
Searching for places and drawing a route sends those place names and coordinates to our server, which forwards them to a geocoding and a routing service and caches the answers so repeat searches are fast. These requests are rate-limited by IP address to keep the service healthy, but they are not tied to any profile of you. Signed out, there is no account to tie them to.
If you create an account
Accounts are optional and exist so you can save your film and come back to it. Sign-in is Google only. When you sign in, we store:
- Your Google account identifier, email address, and the name and profile image Google shares with us.
- The sign-in connection to Google that keeps you logged in on return.
- The film you save: the route, its stops, the map style, and the film settings.
- Whether you have Wayfilm Pro. Payment is handled by our processor; we never see or store your card details.
Cookies
Signed-out visitors get no cookies from us. Signing in sets session cookies so you stay logged in between visits. We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies, ever.
Analytics
We record a small, fixed set of product events (things like "preview played" or "checkout started") to understand which features matter. Some are stored on our own server, and some are sent to PostHog, a product analytics service. There is no session recording, no autocapture, and no advertising tracker. Signed out, events are tied only to a random identifier kept in your browser's localStorage, never a cookie. If you later sign in, that anonymous history is linked to your account so we can see the product as one journey; deleting your account removes the link.
Who processes your data
We rely on a small set of service providers, each handling only what its job requires:
- Google: sign-in (OAuth).
- Cloudflare: hosting and content delivery.
- Neon: the database that holds account and saved-film data.
- Polar: payment processing for Wayfilm Pro.
- PostHog: product analytics (the events described above).
- OpenFreeMap: map tiles, based on OpenStreetMap data.
- Photon: place search (the text you type into From/To).
- OpenRouteService: route calculation between the places you pick.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. Providers act on our instructions to run the service.
Your choices
- Use Wayfilm without an account. Then there is no profile of you for us to hold.
- Delete your account at any time from the account menu. Deletion removes your profile, your saved film, and your billing record, and cancels an active Pro subscription.
- Email us with any question or request about your data.
Data retention
Account data is kept until you delete your account, at which point your profile and everything tied to it is removed from our database. Cached geocoding and routing answers expire on their own and contain no account information.
Children
Wayfilm is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will be called out clearly.
